Purpose and Typical Duties

The mission of the Parks and Recreation Authority is to create recreational opportunities for growth and enhancement by developing diverse services and programs that promote citizen involvement and a strong sense of community while striving to increase the social, cultural and physical well- being of its residents and visitors.

No one can serve more than 3 consecutive full terms.

Meeting Time and Place

PRA meetings are held in the Administration Building Auditorium at 414 N. Main Street on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 7:00PM (April-Oct.) & 6:00PM (Nov.-March).

Member Qualification

This Authority shall be governed by a board of eight (8) members, to be appointed by the Board of Supervisors. Two members will be sitting members of the Madison County Board of Supervisors. They will be appointed annually at BOS organizational meeting. The Madison County Recreation Manager shall serve as an ex officio member.

Before entering upon the duties of a member of the authority, an appointee shall not be eligible to be seated until an oath of office is administered by the Clerk of the Circuit Court or other qualified official.
