Parks & Recreation Authority

Purpose and Typical Duties

The mission of the Parks and Recreation Authority is to create recreational opportunities for growth and enhancement by developing diverse services and programs that promote citizen involvement and a strong sense of community while striving to increase the social, cultural and physical well- being of its residents and visitors.

Length of Term

4 years

Term Limitations

There are no limits on the number of terms a member may serve.

Number of Members

Not less than six members, but always an even number, appointed by the governing body of the locality. (8 per the Authority's bylaws)

Meeting Time and Place

PRA meetings are held in the Administration Building Auditorium at 414 N. Main Street on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 7:00pm.

Member Qualification

Bylaws suggest that one member of the Authority must be a member of the Board of Supervisors. Members of Board of Supervisors may be appointed to serve on the Authority but cannot comprise a majority.

Before entering upon the duties of a member of the authority, an appointee shall not be eligible to be seated until an oath of office is administered by the Clerk of the Circuit Court or other qualified official.
