Per the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code:
- In accordance with Section 36-105 of the Code of Virginia, any building or structure may be inspected at any time before completion, and shall not be deemed in compliance until approved by the inspecting authority.
- The building official or their designee may conduct a site inspection prior to issuing a permit.
- Each locality has a list of minimum or required inspections.
- In addition: The building official may designate additional inspections and tests to be conducted during the construction of a building or structure and shall so notify the permit holder.
- Erosion controls on land disturbed by building activity must be maintained throughout entire period of construction.
- Any permit issued shall become invalid if the authorized work is not commenced within six (6) months after issuance of the permit, or if the authorized work is suspended or abandoned for a period of six (6) months after the time of commencing the work.
- If an inspection is called for and the work is not ready, does not meet the requirements of the USBC, or has not progressed to a point that a proper inspection can be made, a re-inspection of the project will be required. A fee of $100.00 will be charged.
- The road to the site has to be built & be accessible for vehicles going to and from the site before any inspection can be made.

Important Notice: when requesting an inspection, you must provide the permit number, location and the owner's name.
Please note, inspection times can not be guaranteed. You may request an AM or PM inspection, but understand it is only a request. If you call for an inspection, it must be ready at the time of the request.
