Election Officials Needed

Election Officials are needed for the upcoming election year! Election Officials are the persons responsible for running the operations of the polling places on Election Day. Get detailed information on the Virginia Department of Elections website.

Election Officials are required to attend at least one training session which is held within the 30 days prior to each Election Day.

Election Officials are paid $160 to $200 for Election Day, depending on the assignment, plus $25 to $50 for training.

Election Day hours: 5 am to approximately 8 pm. The polls are open from 6 am to 7 pm.

All Election Officials must remain in their assigned precinct during Election Day unless other arrangements have been made.

Election Officials who signed up in 2022 have a term expiring February 28, 2024.

Any person who serves as an officer of the election as defined in § 24.2-101 shall neither be discharged from employment, nor have any adverse personnel action taken against him, nor shall he be required to use sick leave or vacation time, as a result of his absence from employment due to such service, provided he gave reasonable notice to his employer of such service. No person who serves for four or more hours, including travel time, on his day of service shall be required to start any work shift that begins on or after 5 pm on the day of his service or begins before 3 am on the day following the day of his service. Any employer violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a Class 3 misdemeanor. § 24.2-118.1
