Purpose and Typical Duties
The General Registrar operates under the direction and supervision of the Madison County Electoral Board and implements the election laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The Electoral Board is a three-member board appointed by the Circuit Court to administer the election laws and other regulations established by the State Board of Elections. The Electoral Board appoints the General Registrar, Election Officials and Voting Machine Custodians.

There are no limits on the number of terms a member may serve.

Meeting Time and Place
The Electoral Board meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 1:00 p.m. Meetings are held at the Registrar Office.
Member Qualification
Two electoral board members must be of the same political party that cast the highest number of votes for the Governor at the last election; the third member must be of the political party that cast the next-to-highest number of votes in the last gubernatorial election.
