Virginia Retirement System
Membership in the Virginia Retirement System is a condition of employment for eligible employees of participating employers. Employees are responsible for the 5.0% employee contribution. All full-time, salaried employees are eligible for membership in Virginia Retirement System. Eligible employees become members as soon as they begin work, as a condition of employment.
Plans
- VRS Plan 1 - is a defined benefit plan (hired before July 1, 2020).
- VRS Plan 2 - is a defined benefit plan (employees hired on or after July 1, 2020).
- LEOS - for full-time salaried local law enforcement officers, firefighters and other employees in hazardous duty positions with political subdivisions.
- Hybrid Plan - is a combined of a defined benefit plan and a defined contribution plan (employees hired on or after January 1, 2014).
