Temporary Tents & Membrane Structures

 

Per the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code, a permit is required if the area of the tent(s) exceeds 900 square feet -or- the occupant load exceeds 50.

 

Regardless of whether a permit is required, all tents shall meet the following requirements:

A permanent label shall be affixed to all tents & membrane structures indicating they meet the flame propagation requirements of NFPA 701
Approved ‘No Smoking’ signs shall be posted
All tents shall have an approved fire extinguisher
Open flames or any other device emitting flames, fire or heat are not permitted
Means of egress shall comply with section 3103.12 of the Virginia SFPC
Any and all other requirements of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code shall be met and adhered to at all times.
