In February 2020, this office was approached by the Piedmont Environmental Council about a digitization project that PEC was working on with James Madison University to digitize the records pertaining to the condemnation of lands for the creation of the Shenandoah National Park.  Since Madison County had one of the largest land areas acquired for the Park's creation, the digitization of those records is a tremendous resource for the people of Madison County and the descendants of those families affected by the Park's creation.  The records include the original court case documents from the 1920s and 1930s and include condemnation cases, appraisals, surveys, and other information pertaining to individual properties acquired for (or assessed for inclusion in) the Shenandoah National Park.

The Madison County Courthouse was built in 1829-30. The Courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1969.
