The County Administrator is a full-time official appointed by the Board of Supervisors. The County Administrator serves as the administrative head of the County government and performs duties outlined by the Code of Virginia. She is responsible to the Board of Supervisors for the proper management of all the affairs of the county which are within the Board’s authority to control. Under the direction of the Board, and with the assistance of the County’s Director of Finance, the County Administrator is responsible for preparation of recommendations for an annual budget for the County. Further, the Administrator appoints all officers and employees of the locality, or may authorize the head of an office or department to do so; provides supervision and direction to county department heads; executes the Board of Supervisors’ approved budget each year; keeps the Board informed on the locality’s financial condition; and sees that policies and priorities established by the Board of Supervisors are carried out. The County Administrator also serves as the County’s Procurement Agent, as Clerk to the Board for record-keeping purposes, and as the liaison between the Board of Supervisors and the County’s Emergency Management Coordinator.
Lisa Robertson has held the position of County Administrator since December 2006. Ms. Robertson is a 1982 graduate of Madison County High School. |

Doing Business With the County |
Pursuant to Virginia Code 15.2-414 the County Administrator is responsible for performing the duties of purchasing agent. In this role, the County Administrator directs the purchase of goods and supplies for the county and its departments, subject to the Virginia Public Procurement Act and small purchase procedures enacted at the local level by the Board of Supervisors.
