Planning Commission

By law, every community is required to create a Planning Commission, in order to promote the orderly development of the locality. The Planning Commission serves primarily in an advisory capacity to the Board of Supervisors and consists of twelve members: one member of the Board of Supervisors and eleven other citizens appointed by the Board. Planning Commission members must be residents of the county, qualified by knowledge and experience to make decisions on questions of community growth and development. Duties of the Planning Commission include making recommendations and an annual report to the Board of Supervisors concerning the Commission’s operations and the status of planning within the County and the preparation/recommendation to the Board of a Comprehensive Plan for the physical development of the county.
